"It was as if he had been suffering the evil genius equivalent of jet lag"
Glamourpuss (thanks to David W for the tip!)...
I'm dubious about the concept, but the preview pages suggest that the Dave Sim who returned has regained his equilibrium and his sense of humor without sacrificing his artistic genius (horrific views on women and Islam remain, evidently). There's even a Buffy tie-in: In "Following Cerebus" he used publicity photos of Sarah Michelle Gellar to make some point or other. My loyalties are far more to Cerebus than to Sim, especially latter-day Sim, but I'm still enough of a fan to be excited by this.
Thirty years of Cerebus logo via Margaret - thanks!
Dave Sim's Cerebus the Aardvark is, of course, the origin of the name "Abu Aardvark", even though Dave would almost certainly object to nearly everything I write (which is fine - back in the day, we exchanged some very interesting letters). The famously internet-phobic Sim is even taking questions over at the forums of The Comics Journal though it seems to be going about as well as most discussions on forums... (his responses to questions over at the Yahoo news group, on the other hand, were often awe-inspiring in what they revealed about Sim's attention to detail and the thought which went into nearly every aspect of Cerebus... even if that doesn't change my views on the last fifty-ish issues of the book).
No larger point, and completely frivolous - so sue me. Just something fun for a rainy Friday morning before I head into meetings for the day.
As much as I would love to take credit for the 30 years graphic, that was all Jeff Tundis, the same guy who helped Dave out with the glamourpuss site (http://www.glamourpusscomic.com) and the Cerebus Art website (http://cerebusart.com/). He said I could snag it for use on the CFG and CerebusWiki sites. Hard to believe Cerebus has been out for 30 years!
