Speaking of unifying and fragmenting the Arab agenda, here's a heads up. With all that's going on in Gaza and Iraq, the most radically Arabist of the major dailies, al-Quds al-Arabi, manages to devote two of its four op-eds today to the burning question of Salman Rushdie's possible Knighthood. Thus far it doesn't seem to be getting much play on al-Jazeera or al-Arabiya (no stories on their websites right now, at least), but give it a little time. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if other Arab media (especially Saudi) quickly figures out that this will be a neat way to distract attention from their unpopular positions towards Gaza, et al. All we need now is some cartoons to really get a circus going.
