I didn't get nominated for any blog awards this year. Oh, how I cried. I guess that's how it is... you ain't even impressed no more, you're used to it. Seriously, though, I really don't care about blog awards (who could possibly care about a competition in which LGF is the runaway leader for 'best blog'?). BUT... my friend Jen Mattern is nominated in the 'parenting blog' category and she does care, and she could sure use your votes! Trust me, she needs to win. She deserves to win. And therefore, she probably won't. So go vote!
Dear AA,
Aqoul is up for "Best Africa/Middle East Blog". Just sayin' ...
And yes, the kinds of people one is up against can be ... errr ... "interesting".

Actually. I'd nominated you for a Brass Crescent Award, but alas you didn't make the voting round.
Aqoul did tie for Honorable Mention in the Best Group Blog category for a BCA too, I might mention.

It's a pity I'm so indifferent to these things.

Go Aqoul!

Oh you are such a dear soul. Thank you. I nominate you for Sheer Grooviness.

We'll add Sheer Grooviness to next year's Brass Crescent Awards :)
To be honest I think that blog awards only make sense when there's a common thread of identity governing the categories and the nominees. The Wizbang awards end up being an arms race between the left and the right as to who can mobilize the most freepers/kossacks. The sheer breadth of the ideological spectrum that is eligible means that only the extremes end up actually getting nominated.
Obviously I am biased since I manage the BC awards (in partnership with Shahed of altmuslim.com), but I really think that the SNR level of the winners in our contest is much higher than what Wizbang's awards have to offer.
and btw Lounsbury, a pity you and the crew weren't incentised earlier - Aqoul lost to Astrolabe by only 5 votes.
