The single greatest musical event of 2006 is almost upon us. Scott Miller has come out of retirement to record the new Loud Family album which we feared would never be. What If It Works?, a collaboration between Scott and Anton Barbeau, is available for pre-order at 125 Records, and may ship as soon as June 16.
Long time Abu Aardvark readers know that the Loud Family is one of my great obscure passions. Scott's last album, Attractive Nuisance (2000), was a tour d'force, an absolutely brilliant album. Here's one song, Motion of Ariel [Download ariel.mp3], which gives a taste of the music and lyrics (via the Loud Family site). But it didn't sell well enough to keep the band together. Scott retired to have a couple of adorable kids and to fill his days with occasional email banter with Abu Aardvark. Nobody knows for sure why he changed his mind, but at long last he's back. I haven't heard the new album yet, but the one song on the Loud Family MySpace site, Total Mass Destruction, sounds incredible.
To the extent that I have the power to do good, allow me to wield it now: buy the new Loud Family album so that Scott decides to keep making new music! And tell 'em the aardvark sent you.
