Just because some people have asked, wanted to let everyone know that I'm still around. I know I haven't been blogging for a week. Combination of travel, lots of work and two solid weeks of sick kids home from day care. And saddened and a bit subdued by Shirin's death. Unlikely to change until after I get back from another trip Tuesday. But I will get back to blogging some day.
And in the meantime, what am I supposed to do? Speak to my wife? Pet my dogs and cats? Stay up on current events myself? No way, man, I went that route once and it's a dead end.
/me looks around
It's cold outside and there are wolves after me.

Au revoir les aardvarks. Bad news on all fronts. Perhaps May will bring a positive change of events. Dreadful news concerning your former student.

sorry about your personal feeling of loss....and the despair one feels at such times...Courage...we all face this all the time...
Inshallah u will find buoyancy again soon, for Shireen, for your family and for other Shireen's that will need you in the future....
Every sympathy goes out to her family....
Loss is a way of life in the Arab world, and elsewhere
and always lies await for us...savour every minute before it is gone

dear friend
all i can share is a poem...
ON THE DEATH OF A CHILD
The greatest griefs shall find themselves inside the smallest cage.
It's only then that we can hope to tame their rage.
The monsters we must live with. For it will not do
To hiss humanity because one human threw
Us out of heart and home. Or part
At odds with life because one baby failed to live.
Indeed, as little as its subject, is the wreath we give --
The big words fail to fit. Like giant boxes
Round small bodies. Taking up improper room,
Where so much withering is, and so much bloom.
