Marc,

I never said that the paper didn't publish the cartoons. More reading problems, I guess.

At any rate, I think this topic has run its course. I'm closing this comment thread in the hopes of returning some level of sanity around here. Let's all do our parts, eh?

YOU were the one who threw around the term "negative counterfactual" without really knowing what it entails.

That loose usage indicates YOUR sloppy writing skills and not the quality of my reading.

By the way, I've NEVER heard of a blogger simply shutting down a thread because they don't like some of the critical comments.

This is a first in the blogosphere.

A shameful first for you.

as a free-for-all kind of guy when it comes to these comment sections, i guess in most instances i would be criticizing the sudden closure of comments because of the course the conversation is taking.

but when i read that other thread i just can't get past the fact that you're acting like a major dickhead. you can certainly disagree with our ardvaark host here however you want. marc has already displayed tolerance for dissenting viewpoints here. if you're trying to turn this into some kind of censorship thing, it won't work. at least not with some of the longtime readers of this blog.

but just because our host tolerates dissent, doesn't mean he has to tolerate people who act like an asshole. the key point here is, AA is our host we are his guest when we visit. you seem to like to throw around random arabic words (or pseudo-words like "dhimmitude") in your comments. so how about al-Diyaafa? it's not just a one-way street you know.

Jeffrey

Upyernoz,

I've been active in the blogosphere for three years now and I've never seen ANYONE shut down a thread because they felt uncomfortable with criticism.

It says a lot about Marc.

Listen, I've picked up some interesting information and had to take another look at ideas I've held after reading some of Marc's posts. But the guy does NOT know what free speech and debate are.

By shutting down a thread like that, Marc makes himself look a school-marmed twit. You know that and I know that. Now Marc needs to know that. Keep yer threads open, bud.

Jeffrey

Upyernoz,

I don't know how old you are, so this might fly right over your head (your aversion to capital letters suggests that shaving is perhaps a recent endeavor for you). As far as the behavior of guests goes, I urge you to pick up a copy of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" And buckle up.

on the contrary, i think he was doing you a favor.

and are you serious when you say you've never seen anyone shut down comments before? of all the ways to swat at a commenter, that's probably the nicest way to do it. you're still here, after all. he didn't ban you. and all your prior comments are still there, he didn't delete anything you wrote either. i stand by my earlier remarks, especially about how you're not playing nice here.

Jeffrey

Upyernoz,

A kind of censorship thing?

Heee heee heee.

Now THAT made day, Nozzle.

I'll pass on the reified beans.

Heh heh.

relevance?

i also don't know how old you are, and frankly i really don't care. no matter what your age, that doesn't mean you should act like an asshole

Jeffrey

Upyernoz,

I LOVE you.

Not playing nice?!

Man, I feel just like a schoolgirl again.

Gee, Jane, should I wear the baby-blue sweater or the pink one to roller-rink?

Please don't change.

Jeffrey

Upyernoz,

I don't ACT like an asshole.

I AM an asshole.

I've already alerted the bow-ties who gather at this chalk-dusted watering hole for H-Prepared and Tenure-tracked Fellas.

*

Jeffrey

Nozzle,

He may certainly BAN me. Fine. I'm cool with that. But don't SHUT DOWN the thread. And that I've never seen. Strictly for creeps.

wow, poking around about this jeffrey from new york fella (aka jeffrey schuster) sure does produce a lot of interesting things.

like this and this (it seems like jeffrey has seen closed comment threads before. so much for swearing up and down that he has never ever ever seen such behavior in a blogger in his three years as a cyber-stalker)

Jeffrey

Nozzle,

Could you step back just a second? I need to speak to Marc IN PRIVATE.

Marc, listen. I think you ought to ban me now. You know why? (sotto voce) No one talks about this but banning someone will give you something unexpected tonight. You don't understand? Listen, you won't need to pop a Viagra tonight when you climb into bed with your wife. It's a kick, man. You'll be ALL MAN tonight, big fella, after showing everyone what a man you are by banning me. Your wife will thank you!

C'mon, DO it. BE a man.

Okay, Nozzle, what were you saying?

Niki? Heh heh. Well, Iraqi Bloggers Central is also given prominence on many of the finest blogrolls around the world, including the ITM brothers and our Dear, Demented Sandmonkey and the fine folks at Little Green Footballs.

*

Jeffrey

Nozzle,

Niki banned me. She did not close down the comments section.

Just to be clear.

Niki, by the way, has some serious issues, as we say.

In contrast, I'm the picture of good health and proceed through life with moderation.

the aardvark

It's not about criticism. It's about you being psychotic. Not fun at all. Get help, man.

Collounsbury

No kidding, there is not even a jousting match, just oddly disjointed blithering on.

I have, in fact, banned Jeffrey - the first person I have ever banned in three and half years of running this blog. I hope that he respects my request that he take his unique personality elsewhere. Hopefully, that is all.
