In the midst of the terrifying escalation in Iraq, it would be possible to miss yet another tragic day for journalists, as three al-Arabiya employees were abducted and murdered yesterday: its correspondent Atwar Bahjat, and two members of her crew, Adnan Abdullah, and Khaled Muhassan. Elaph rather disgustingly blames al-Jazeera for their deaths in its headline, for no clear reason; in a real show of class, al-Jazeera for its part runs a tribute to its ex-colleague on the front page of its website.
Condolences to all friends and family, yet again. And let's continue to remember that Jill Carroll is still out there, god willing, and hope for her safe return.
The staff at Al Jazeera were devestated...especially since Atwan only left Al Jazeera in December. They held a tribute to her last night in the canteen that ended in tears.
