Asa'ad AbuKhalil reports that the US-run Radio Sawa "is "exclusively" and "bizarrely" reporting that there is growing popular support for `Allawi to stay in as puppet prime minister."
It may be bizzare, but it isn't exclusive. I noticed yesterday that the Saudi-owned, pro-American and pro-Allawi station al Arabiya was heavily reporting the same thing.
Whether this represents reporting an interesting new development or propaganda aimed at influencing popular perceptions in the hopes of creating a role for Allawi I do not know... but if I had to put money on it, I'd put it on the "propaganda." Worked for Chalabi...
Let me see if I get this straight: 86% of Iraqi voters have rejected Allawi's leadership and political vision and certain "news outlets" are saying there is growing popular support for him to remain Iraq's leader? I guess this "news" does make a lot of sense - but in the age of propaganda, not of democracy.
