The Muslim Brotherhood event tomorrow
Since at least four people have asked me today, the "Muslim Brotherhood Party Platform" panel at 4:00 tomorrow over at Carnegie (1779 Mass Ave) featuring me, Nathan Brown, Amr Hamzawy, and Diane Singerman is indeed open to the public. I don't know why it isn't mentioned anywhere I can find on the Carnegie website or the Elliott School website (you can find it on the ESIA calender, though). Maybe they figure we're just one of those hot acts that can fill a room with word of mouth alone, and if they actually promoted the event things would just get out of control. That happens all the time... I still remember that one club back in '06 when word got out that Shawn, Marshall and I would be previewing the new "Arab political blogging" single... But I digress. Abu Aardvark readers are official Honorary Insiders and are welcome to attend. Just remember the secret password....
Hey Marc - Have you been following the MB blogs lately? Al-Arian out of favor, bloggers up in arms about the new platform, and the shebab's short-lived "Ikhwan Offline" site (now actually offline) to counter the line put forth by Ikhwan Online? Would be curious to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to sift through the blogs. Too early to tell, but from here it looks like the old guard has discarded this little experiment with democracy and human rights and has gone back to what the Brothers have always been about: first and foremost, Islam.

Hey, that's my talk! It's too soon to make the call that you are, though. Akef personally intervened to get Ibrahim Houdabyi's rebuttal to the conservatives published on Ikhwan Online - the battle is still on.
