Saudis making nice with Iran?
Al-Arabiya is reporting that Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal just made nice to Iran in a press conference, saying that Saudi Arabia never meant to imply that Iran was intervening in Lebanese affairs and if they had it was all to the good. He said that he was now in continuous contact with the Iranians and that they were working together in the interests of the Lebanese people.
Interesting - especially in light of everything in the previous post. This is a pretty major rhetorical change, and I wonder if it implies something in the works. We'll see...

I thought the Saudis were experts at saying one thing and doing another. This could be a case in which they are saying one thing for the Arab public, but not actually doing much along the lines of their public rhetoric.
Notice also that this position still confirms the western narrative that Iran is ultimately pulling the strings -- which may be true as to events of the last week, but ignores the centrality of Israel in launching those events originally.
I have been struck by the irony that the end result of bush's "diplomacy" is to put our fate in the hands of Iran, whom we now have to beg for restraint and preventive intervention. What if Iran doesnt find it in its interest to help us out of the crises we have brought about?

If I address you as Ustaz Abu-Aardvark often enough in comments, it might catch on ...

We get to bomb them. For Bush it's a win-win situation!

Ya Ustez, Oceana has always been at peace with Eurasia and allied with Eastasia.
